Academic Interests:
Dr. Price McMurray came to Wesleyan in 2001. His teaching and research interests are eclectic, ranging from medieval Italian poetry to contemporary American fiction, and he is especially interested in the issues of literary influence and intertextuality. He has contributed to a variety of academic journals, and his scholarship appears in critical collections such as Nineteenth-Century Literature Criticism and Short Story Criticism; his essay “Aristotle on the Pinnacle: Paradise Regained and the Limits of Theory” was recently reprinted in John Milton: Bloom’s Modern Critical Views, one of a series of volumes comprising “a representative selection of the best contemporary criticism of the most studied poets, novelists, essayists, and playwrights of the Western world.”
Currently, Dr. McMurray is preparing Contemporary American Fiction (ENG 4347) for the fall of 2006 and writing a book on the Hawthorne-Emerson relationship. A member of the MLA, the Dante Society of America, and the Nathaniel Hawthorne Society, Dr. McMurray serves on the Admissions, Scholarships, and Financial Aid Committee at Wesleyan. He also oversees The Rambler, Wesleyan’s student newspaper, and acts as faculty advisor for the Texas Wesleyan Democrats.
