Admissions Process and Deadlines

Application Deadlines

We have rolling deadlines and will accept applications at any reasonable date prior to the start of a fall or spring semester. It is recommended that you submit your application packet at least six months before the semester you wish to enroll. Please be advised that we will be able to consider your application for the semester you wish to enroll only if we receive all of the required documents. In order to process your application for admission in a timely manner, we request that you submit your application as soon as possible.

Application / Admissions Process

Apply and get admitted

You will submit your application and all accompanying documents to the Office of International Programs (see requirements).  If parts of the application are missing, the International Programs Office will notify you.  Once your application is complete and the office has had time for review, if you are admitted, you will receive a letter of acceptance and an I-20 form from Texas Wesleyan University.

Obtain a Student Visa

Next, you will need to obtain an F-1 student visa from the nearest U.S. consulate / embassy. Contact the nearest U.S. consulate in order to find information on applying for a visa. You must complete forms, submit documents (sometimes more than once), pay the SEVIS fee (U.S.$ 200), and schedule an interview with a consulate official. You should apply immediately for a passport, if you do not already have one. You will need to present the admission letter and I-20, along with a valid passport issued by your government, and your sponsor’s new bank statement and sponsor letter (evidence of financial support) to the nearest U.S. consulate or embassy in order to apply for your F-1 visa.

Since it may take a long time to go through the visa application process, you should apply for a visa as soon as possible.  When you enter the U.S., you will be required to show your I-20, evidence of financial support, and passport.  Care should be taken not to lose the I-94 arrival/departure card (or any of the other documents) which will be given to you at the port-of-entry into the United States.

Prepare to Enter the University

- Make travel plans to arrive in Fort Worth in time to participate in the Orientation program. DFW (Dallas Fort Worth International Airport) is the nearest airport to Texas Wesleyan.

- Apply for Texas Wesleyan campus housing or research off-campus housing options

- Register for the International New Student Orientation.

- Take care of immunizations and health care:  Obtain an updated record that lists immunizations you have had.  This record should be in English and be signed by your physician, and it will be collected during the International Student Orientation.  Texas Wesleyan University requests immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella, polio, and tuberculosis.   Due to the high cost of medical care in the U.S., it is advisable that you have your teeth and eyes examined before you leave home.

- Prepare your money and decide how to transport and access your money while in the U.S.  We recommend that you bring your money in U.S. dollars, for example in the form of traveler's checks or credit cards and a minimum amount of cash--just enough for immediate expenses--to prevent non-replaceable losses.  Upon arrival, you may open a bank account into which funds from your home may be deposited to meet your payment obligations as well as for further financial transactions.  We recommend that you ask the bank with which you normally do business in your home country to explore and explain how best to transfer funds to Fort Worth.  Some banks in Fort Worth will be able to exchange foreign currency into dollars if you open an account with them.  Please note, however, that it may take several days (usually up to ten days) to cash a foreign banker's draft.  We recommend that you exchange sufficient funds into U.S. dollars before leaving your home country to ensure that you will be able pay all your immediate expenses on time, including tuition and fees.  Remember that credit cards (VISA/MasterCard/Discover) are accepted by Texas Wesleyan University.

- Pack clothing for the heat and cold of Texas.   Summer temperatures in Fort Worth range between 20°C (70°F) and 35°C (95°F) but may often go above 38°C (100°F).  Winter temperatures range between 5°C (43°F) and 15°C (60°F) but may go as low as -5°C (28°F).  Be prepared to dress for both cold and hot weather.  Students dress informally on campus.  Both men and women often wear slacks, shorts, blue jeans, and t-shirts or shirts.  There are rare times when the occasion calls for more formal clothing with men wearing suits and ties and women wearing skirts or dresses.

You may wish to bring an outfit representative of your country's attire to wear for special events and to show people as you teach them about your home.  Texas Wesleyan University international students plan an annual International Fair where students get to show off their homelands to their friends, professors, and the community with displays and information about their home countries.  The fair will highlight the sights and sounds from all of our representative countries, so you might want to include a small something (cassette tapes, pictures, small books, flags, etc.) in your suitcase that will add to our internationalization at Texas Wesleyan University.  We look forward to sharing your culture with you!
