The Study of Management

  • According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers Summer 2010 Salary Survey the current average salary for a management major is $43,879/year.

  • A management education can be applied to virtually every industry and organization. 
  • Gain an understanding of the process of management such as leading, motivating, decision making, among others.
  • If your goal is to become a manager, to move up the corporate ladder, or to start your own business, you will need to have great communication skills, ability to think critically, analytically, and conceptually, ability to lead and motivate employees to achieve a common goal, and the ability to make decisions that will benefit your organization.
  • General and operations managers plan, direct, or coordinate the operations of public and private sector organizations. Duties include formulating policies, managing daily operations, and planning the use of materials and human resources
  • Management analysts are often hired on a contract basis by public and private organizations. For example, a company undergoing rapid growth, a merger, or downsizing can benefit by having an outside expert come in to work with the current management team.
  • Management consultants analyze the current status of the organization, their goals and resources, and then present findings and suggested solutions. Asked to help implement any changes such as staffing expansion projects, restructuring programs, etc.
