License in Marriage and Family Therapy Courses
License in Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT) courses are offered for students to take along with their required courses.
Once you have completed your master’s degree and the additional courses, you are qualified to sit for the state LMFT exam and obtain your License in Marriage and Family Therapy. Texas Wesleyan does not provide the licensure, but does offer the curriculum that you will need to sit for the state LMFT exam.
The five courses below may be taken as electives, which graduate counseling students may take to seek their LMFT in addition to their master’s degree:

If you are a student in the Master of Science in School Counseling program who entered before summer 2008, in addition to the 36 hours to complete your degree, you will need to complete the following courses:
The 5 LMFT courses (one of which is a practicum course)
One additional LPC practicum course
COU 6310 Advanced Psychopathology
COU 6306 Research Methods
Total: 8 classes = 24 additional hours
If you are a student in the Master of Science in School Counseling program who entered in summer 2008 and beyond, in addition to the 39 hours to complete your degree, you will need to complete the following courses:
The 5 LMFT courses (one of which is a practicum course)
One additional LPC practicum course
(COU 6315 or COU 6316)
COU 6306 Research Methods
Total: 7 classes = 21 additional hours
*Beginning summer 2008, the Master of Science degree includes COU 6310, Advanced Psychopathology, as a required course.
If you are a student in the Master of Arts in Professional Counseling program, in addition to the 48 hours to complete your degree, you will need to complete the following courses:
The 5 LMFT courses (one of which is a practicum course)
Total: 5 classes = 15 additional hours
