The Study of Marketing
- According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers Summer 2006 Salary Survey the current average salary for a marketing major is $37,851/year.
- Marketing is one of the broadest and most misunderstood fields of study and is the single largest employment category in the U.S. labor force and job growth in the field is expected to accelerate. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the number of jobs in marketing, advertising and public relations management will grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2006.
- Some of the jobs include: marketing, advertising and public relations managers; sales representatives; purchasing agents and managers; wholesale and retail buyers and merchandise managers; market research analysts; logistics – material receiving, scheduling, dispatching and distributing occupations.
- Marketing is defined as the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion and distribution of ideas, goods, services, organizations and events to create and maintain relationships that satisfy individual and organizational objectives.
- Marketing graduates develop the communication, social, analytical and interpersonal skills viewed as prerequisites for career success, in addition to textbook knowledge.
- If a student elects to do an internship, it is a graded academic experience that provides the student with an opportunity to put classroom learning into practice and gain valuable work experience in their major field of study.
