Are you ready to take your school counseling certification exam? 

Students must be in their final semester to take the school counseling certification exam.

First, you must contact Gail Stewart, Certification Officer, to let her know you will be taking the exam. Here is her contact information:

After you have contacted Gail, she will check with Dr. Metcalf for approval. A student must have approval from their university to test. Once approved, Gail will go to the SBEC website and add your approval. She will not approve any student until she has notification from Dr. Metcalf that you are ready to test.

Once you are approved to test, you can register to take the test. This is the procedure to register:

1. Go to www.sbec.state.tx.us and select "SBEC Online for Educators" and log into their SBEC account. They should update any information and get their TEA ID#. Once they have the TEA ID# they can log out of that account.

2. Log into www.texes.ets.org and register for the test. The student will need to set up an account on the ETS site if they have never registered with a TEA ID# before. They will use their TEA ID# on this site. The students use a TEA ID# rather than a social security number.
