Graduation Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to do when I'm ready to graduate?

Turn in your graduation application, available in Online Forms or in the Office of Student Records.  We will generate a final official degree plan and will send you a letter ("audit letter") verifying what you have left to complete for graduation.

How long does it take to get my final degree plan and my audit letter?

That depends on how long it takes to process your file and for which semester you've applied to graduate.

Why do we have to turn in our graduation applications the semester before we intend to graduate?

It takes time to process files for graduation.  The earlier we receive your application, the more time we have to process it.

I got my letter and it says I still have things to complete before I can graduate, but I thought it had all been taken care of.  What do I do?

Talk with your advisor and contact Jessica Boone, Technical Records Coordinator.

What if I'm finishing in Summer... is there a graduation ceremony then?

There is not a graduation ceremony for Summer graduates.  You are welcome to come back in December to participate in the December ceremony following your Summer graduation.  If you are interested, please submit a brief request in writing to the Office of Student Records.  If you meet the Walking Guidelines stated in the catalog, you may petition for permission to participate in the Spring graduation ceremony preceding your Summer graduation date.  See Walking Guidelines on the right for the guidelines stated in the catalog.

I applied to graduate in Spring, but I won't have all my classes complete.  Can I still participate in the Spring graduation ceremony if I'm finishing in Summer?

Please see the Walking Guidelines on the right.  You must meet the requirements set forth in the University Catalog and receive your Dean's recommendation and the approval of the Provost's Office.

I applied to graduate in Fall, but I won't have all my classes complete.  Can I still participate in the Fall graduation if I'm finishing in Spring?

No.  Participation or "walking" in the graduation ceremony is only available for the Spring semester.  See the Walking Guidelines on the right for details.

Once I graduate, what can I do to raise my GPA?

Your GPA is final once you've graduated.  If you want to raise your GPA, it must be done prior to graduation.

Where is the graduation ceremony held?

Will Rogers Auditorium in Fort Worth.

Why do we and our guests have to have tickets for the graduation ceremony?

To comply with Fort Worth Fire Code, Will Rogers Auditorium requires and enforces ticket restrictions to ensure that the auditorium is not filled beyond capacity.

How many tickets do we get?

That depends upon the number of applicants we have for a given graduation ceremony.  We cannot say for certain how many tickets will be alloted to each student until approximately the middle of the semester.

Where and when do we get our graduation photos?  How much do they cost?

Graduation photography is provided by Flash Photography.  Flash mails proofs to ceremony participants after the graduation ceremony;  information is provided in your graduation information packet.  if you do not receive your proofs, you can contact Flash.  Please visit their website at www.flashphotography.com for details about how to obtain your photos.
