All program activities, except field trips, will be at Texas Wesleyan University.  TexPREP staff will be available to help with projects and homework, if needed.

Courses

First Year

Logic and Its Application to Mathematics

Compound statements, truth tables, elementary set theory, Boolean Algebra and switching networks

Introduction to Engineering

Lecture/laboratory class with the following topis: the Engineering profession, measurements, simple mechanics, work-energy and egineering design; in class and laboratory demonstrations of engineering principles; and team designs of bridges, towers, and gliders.

Algebra/Problem Solving

Numerous and varied experiences with problem solving as a method of inquiry and application so that students can use problem solving approaches to investigate and understand mathematical content, formulate problems, develop and apply a variety of strategies to solve problems, verify and interpret results, generalize solutions and strategies to new problem situations, and acquire confidence in using mathematics meaningfully.

Second Year

Physics

Mechanics-units and physical quantities, equilibrium, Newton's Second Law, work and energy, electricity and Magnetism-Coulomb's Law, current resistence, electromotive force, direct current circuits, magnetic field; laboratory-friction linear air track, free falling bodies, resistors in series and parallel, Amplere's Law.

Mathematics/Problem Solving

The study of groups, rings and fields using the systems of integers and rational numbers as models.  Derivation of algebraic properties of these systems.

Computer Science

Internet, Web Page Design and HTML.
