Theatre Alumnus MIKE SKIPPER wins Tony Award for Best Musical In the In the Heights, a production of alumnus Michael Skipper, BA '78, received the Tony Award for Best Musical. The production won 4 Tony Awards, including Best Director. The thirteen nominations are the most for any one production. "I'm just jumpin' for joy," Skipper told The Fort Worth Business Press. In the Heights played at Skipper's 37 ARTS before moving to the Richard Rogers Theatre at W. 46th St. While the musical was at 37 ARTS in the spring of 2007, many of Texas Wesleyan's theatre students and alumni were able to see the show during the Playmarket trip to New York City in May 2007. Skipper and his wife Anne Street Skipper, chairman of the Texas Wesleyan Board of Trustees, live in Graham and New York City.

Theatre Alumna and art director, Tamlyn Wright wins her third Emmy Award
(Tamlyn with her 2005 Emmy Award) On Saturday, September 8, 2007, The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences awarded the 2006-2007 Creative Arts Primetime Emmys for programs and individual achievements at the 59th Emmy Awards presentation at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Tamlyn received her latest Award as Art Director for Outstanding Art Direction for Variety, Music or Nonfiction Programming for the 79th Annual Academy Awards on ABC. She shared this honor with J. Michael Riva, and Greg Richman, Art Director. One of Tamlyn's Emmy Awards is currently on display in the Oneal-Sells Administration Building on the Texas Wesleyan University Campus. |
